Who Can Resist a Sale?

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has noticed the incredible sales going on in numerous stores?! It happens time and time again during the transition of seasons.  The stores are clearing their shelves of the past season's items to make room for new season items.

The sales have been out of this world (worst time EVER to stop shopping)!;) In the past when deals are this extraordinary, I've found myself buying things just because its an amazing price and not because I love it.  #shopaholic #lovestogetadeal

This got me thinking...when should you stop buying clothes for the current season, knowing you won't be able to wear them for too much longer?  I always come around to the same answer...If it's a classic piece that will not go out of style, buy it! If it's a trendy piece that will likely come and go, skip it!

I know, easier said than done.

Here are some current winter items that are on sale and oh so tempting to buy!  In my opinion, these are classic prints that will be here to stay.

Was $88 Now $59
Currently this shirt says it's sold out, but if you check J. Crew first thing in the morning, they sometimes pop back up! I saw this just two days ago!

Was $88 Now $59
Leopard is such a timeless print! Dying to wear this under my turquoise tippi!

Was $49.50 Now $31.50
I'm just in love with the classic navy and white stripes.  The nautical feel of this sweater says "Wear me on a chilly summer night"!
Loft has an additional 30% off all sale items right now!

So tell me...which sale items are on your radar?
It was hard for me to narrow it down to just 3!

Wish List Wednesday

It's wish list Wednesday!! If only I could buy all the items on my wish list! :( Anyhow, one Wednesday a month I'm going to make wish list Wednesday, where I list items i'm dying to get my hands on...at the moment!
I've been swooning over these items for the spring season...

I'm really loving how J. Crew partnered with London's Liberty Art Fabrics to create the Liberty floral prints this season.  They are all bursting with spring energy and bring these vintage patterns back to life!  I've always had a love of vintage clothing and jewelry.  I've been collecting vintage Jewelry since I was about 14 years old and love each and every piece!  Stay tuned for a post on all of my vintage jewelry, coming next week!

P.S.
Aren't these kissing canary rings the cutest?  Love them to pieces!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

When to Wear White

As we are approaching March 1st and spring is right around the corner, many of us gals are beginning to wonder "When is it OK to wear white"?  There always seems to be that limbo period where it doesn't seem quite warm enough for white, but the stores are displaying whites for spring! #girlproblems!

I've been asking around to a few of my friends, including IG friends and the consensus seems to be around mid-March, weather permitting.  Oh, how I wish I lived in a tropical climate! :)

Personally, I don't think I could have gotten through the winter without my Banana Republic Cocoon cords found here.  Let's face facts here...white goes with everything and looks crisp, clean and professional for work days.

I've been thinking about the rules we used to live by when growing up...don't wear white after Labor Day or before Memorial Day, black and brown doesn't go together, black and navy was a big no no.  Who made up these rules?  I say we ditch them!! And I'm pretty sure some of us already have ;)

Here are some looks to transition white from Winter White to Summer White!

P.S. can we just take a second to talk about the jean jacket as seen above?  I've always been a huge fan of the jean jacket and SO glad it seems to be making a comeback! So easy to throw on to make any outfit pure perfection:)

So, who's ready to throw the rule book out the window?  Tell me, how are you planning to style your whites this spring?

Everyday Chambray

Everyone has that shirt in their closet that they reach for time and time again.  You know, the shirt that never gets old and maybe you have it in three different colors.  The Chambray shirt is most definitely a year round favorite for me and many I know.  It is by far the most versatile shirt I've ever owned, being able to dress it up or dress it down for almost any occasion.

Polka Dots and Plaid

Happy Friday!!

This week I blogged about how to mix patterns and prints in this post, so I thought I'd do an outfit post on how I mix my patterns and prints in my daily wardrobe while doing the closet remix challenge. Of course I had to include my all time favorite herringbone vest from J. Crew in my post!  I'd seriously be lost without this vest! :)  It's warm, cozy and goes with just about everything.

I've made sure to follow rule #1 in my outfit and stay within the color scheme of red, black and cream.

I've followed rule #2 by making sure I combined the loose prints and the structured prints.  My loose print is the polka dots and my structured print is the herringbone and the plaid.  Because I separated the two structured prints with the loose print, it works!  It's all about a balance!
Last, but not least, I followed rule #3 by combining a variation of small and large prints creating a well-balanced look!

The Tippi

Who doesn't love a casual 3/4 length sleeve sweater that comes in a fun variety of colors? J.Crew's Tippi sweater is the perfect material for layering or wearing on it's own! The material is light weight and buttery soft.  I would buy one in every color if I could afford it!

Before starting the closet remix challenge, J. Crew was having a sale on their Tippi sweaters, and I was dying to get my hands on the brilliant yellow color.  How amazing would it have looked with this turquoise gingham button-up??

After doing many searches for my size through the We Will Find It For You service, it was finally found in a store in Georgia.  I was so excited, but a few days later the store called me to say they did not have the brilliant yellow, but would send me the lemon pulp that I featured in this blog post for the same price, as a courtesy.

You can imagine how I was beyond thrilled to receive the newest spring color for the sale price!  However, when it arrived in the mail, I wasn't crazy about the shade of yellow.  You see, I have an olive complexion, and the greenish undertones in this shade made me look washed out.

You can imagine my disappointment:( I decided to head into my J.Crew store just to see if they would exchange it for another color.  The manager was beyond accommodating and allowed me to exchange it for another spring color.
I had been eyeing the heather turquoise shade for weeks with hopes of it going on sale.  I scooped this beauty up for an insane discount in exchange for the lemon pulp color. Yay me! I Cannot wait to style it with my beaded rose necklace!  Here's what I'm thinking...

Spring, hurry up and get here!!

Have a lovely day!

Mixing Patterns and Prints

It's no surprise that mixing patterns and prints is huge this season.  It's a great way to spice up your wardrobe and create more variety in your outfits, especially when aiming to have that individual, unique look.  Mixing patterns and prints may seem scary to some people, so there are some simple guidelines you should follow when mixing prints.

1.) Make sure to repeat one color in every piece of clothing in the outfit.  Your patterns/prints should have the same color scheme.  For example, navy polka dots with navy stripes.  Colors that have more flexibility in prints are black, white, gray, brown, and navy because they are more versatile and can lend themselves to a bolder print or color.  Below I've paired navy and white stripes with a textured and printed shirt.  I kept the accessories neutral to let the clothing do the talking.

Feminine

2.) Combine structured prints with loose prints.  For example, animal prints with  plaid.  Mixing two bolder patterns can look a bit overwhelming.  It's good to take risks with pattern mixing, but you don't want it to look like you got dressed in the dark! :)  Below I've mixed leopard with classic tartan that had a beige undertone to complement the undertones in the leopard.  I paired it with black leather leggings and accessories to give it an edgy, yet polished look.

Edgy

3.) Blend small designs with large designs, such as small gingham print with large polka dot print.  Mixing too many large patterns can make you look wide, while mixing two smaller prints can make your overall appearance look busy.  The only time it works to mix two smaller scaled prints is if you break it up with a solid color.  Below I've paired larger, more spaced out polka dots over a smaller polka dots in inverted colors and then added a pop of mint.

Casual

I would LOVE to wear all three of these outfit inspirations! Mixing patterns and prints in the same outfit can look very chic and fashion forward.  Don't be afraid to go bold, just follow the three rules!  Allow texture, patterns and prints to tell your style story!

Beaded Rose Bliss

J. Crew has done it again! From the minute I saw the beaded rose necklace from their spring line, I was completely smitten.  I knew immediately this was one of those "had to have" items that I was talking about in this post...and apparently so did just about everyone else!  The necklace completely sold out online in just a few short weeks! I'm so glad I got my hands on it just in time :)

If you haven't gotten your hands on one yet, don't worry! You can contact one of J.Crew's Very Personal Stylists and they will search every store for you through the We Will Find it For You service.  I use my stylist all the time for items I may have missed, and 90% of the time they find it!  Plus, they always offer free shipping when you order through them:)

Of course my first outfit post would occur on the most blustery day of the year! Don't mind my frozen face! :)

If there is one thing I've learned over the years with J.Crew, it's if you like it, buy it fast!  Popular items have been known to sell out extremely quick and then price gouging begins on Ebay. I guess that goes back to the good ol' rules of supply and demand...

I'm predicting that this necklace will be featured time and time again over the next few seasons.  It's most definitely a show stopper!

 Have a wonderful Tuesday!

It's Instagram's Fault!

I think it's safe to say that Instagram has become an addiction of mine and I've become a broke shop-a-holic while browsing people's pictures and finding many "had to have" items.

In my attempts to ease the financial burden of all these recent purchases, I started to sell all of my old clothes, shoes and jewelry on Ebay.  The extra cash could pay for all of the new goodies I was dying to get my hands on.  It was easy, if I wanted a new item all I had to do was sell something to pay for it. Right? Well, what sounded like a good plan actually turned into a spending frenzy with hopes of selling some old junk!

Before I knew it, I was purchasing two to three things a day through online shopping.  It's just too easy to shop online! ;)

4.) Forever 21 Faux Fur Vest (sold out) 5.) Zigi Soho Studded Flats 6.) J. Crew Sequins stripe tee

I'd say reality set in for me when I was trying to figure out what was coming in the mail for me, and I couldn't keep track of all the purchases I had made!  9 things!  I had 9 separate items scheduled to arrive within a few days of each other.  Steve, if you're reading this...I'm sorry! :)

They say the first step is admitting you have a problem...welp, yes I do!

I heard about the closet remix challenge on Instagram and decided that I would give up shopping for 30 days and take this challenge of using clothes I already have in my wardrobe in a fun new way.  Plus, I needed something to give up for Lent! :)

So, that's my story...for today!

Stay tuned for the 10th item I had coming to my house...the purchase that broke my wallet the camel's back! :)
